Leamington Angling waters have been restocked with some superb fish netted from Abbey Fields Lake in Kenilworth.
This
lake has become heavily silted and the fish population is growing
fast, so fish needed to be moved to waters with more space and depth of
water. Warwick District Council asked the Association to move some of
the fish. With the help of Countryside Management Students from Warwickshire College
at Moreton Morrell, Leamington Angling Committee and members struggled
through the deep mud to net superb rudd, roach and bream along with
some double figure common and mirror carp.
All of the fish were health checked and found to be in good condition. Having obtained Environment Agency permission, the fish were moved to their new homes. Nineteen double figure common and mirror carp up to 15 lbs were moved to Snitterfield Reservoir and quality roach, rudd and a few bream went to College Pool at Wasperton. The rudd are already turning up in catches at College Pool.
Our thanks are due to Jon Holmes (Warwick District Council) and Alan Scorer (Warwickshire College) for their help with this operation.
Also many thanks to photographer Bob Saunders
who provided us with some great images of the day. He also used his
special high level camera device for some great overhead shots.
